Why the water matters
Scale is what fails a steriliser.
Autoclave manufacturers specify distilled or deionised feed water for a reason: mains water scales the chamber and the reservoir, and scale is a common cause of a steriliser failing its test.
Water with nothing in it leaves nothing behind. The machine holds its performance, the service interval stays where it should be, and the practice is not explaining a failed cycle during an inspection.
- No scale in the chamber, reservoir or feed lines
- Deionised to 000 ppm — check against your steriliser manual
- Monthly standing order, so a practice never runs dry
HTM 01-05 sets out decontamination in primary care dental practices in England, and your steriliser’s own manual states the feed water it requires. Our water is deionised to 000 ppm — worth checking that against the figure your machine specifies. [HydroForce to confirm what documentation is supplied with an order.]
